RACONTEX can be run from read-only media if desired. This can include CD ROM,
write-protected disks or LAN directories to which you do not have write access
or to which you do not wish to write. For the "reader" engine, RACONTEX.EXE
no special steps are necessary, just treat the directory like any other.
The loader/indexer suite of programs cannot, of course, operate on read-only
media, since they are creating files. The programs may, however, reside on
read-only media. To achieve this, set as current directory a drive and
directory to which you have read/write access. Connect the read-only directory
to this directory using the DOS append command:
APPEND drive:\directory /X:ON /PATH:ON
where drive:\directory is the location of the program and default data files.
The append may later be cancelled by using the commmand APPEND ; (don't
forget the semicolon.)
The version on the read-only media may be the "unregistered" demonstrator
version, including a "key file" LICENCE.PGF which sets that status. To operate
in registered mode, the registered version of LICENCE.PGF should be placed in
the current directory, to override the file from the appended directory.
Similarly, the default STOPWORD file of words not to be indexed may be
overriden by placing a file of the same name in the current directory. For
version 3.24 and later, the file of "delimiters", DELIMIT may be similarly
overridden (for earlier versions, the delimiters were embedded in the file
INDEX.BAT which could not be changed in read-only mode).
